Pennsylvania Turnpike

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission selected Fugro EarthData to provide low-altitude mapping with terrestrial lidar to create an original and customized solution for the high-accuracy specifications required for the overhaul and modernization of the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Low-altitude mapping produced digital terrain models (DTMs) and planimetric maps with vertical accuracies of +/- 0.05' on pavement surfaces. The use of terrestrial lidar quickly modeled vertical rock faces, minimizing lane closures along the busy highway while providing the data to produce engineering designs for "laying back" the rock walls to mitigate future subsidence.
