Fugro GeoServices conducts work for NOAA
August 06, 1999
Fugro GeoServices, Inc. (FGSI) is conducting work for the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration
(NOAA) which will last through the year 2000. The project consists of eight survey areas (approximately 400 square nautical miles)
where NOAA will be updating their nautical charts along dredging channels and fairways south and southwest of Sabine Pass, Texas.
FGSI's responsibilities include collecting and processing shallow water multibeam data as well as interpretation of side scan sonar
data.
Earlier this year, FGSI incorporated new technology to more efficiently collect data. A Chelsea undulating
velocimeter tow body allows the survey vessel to continuously collect multibeam data without interruptions to take a velocimeter
cast. In addition, a draft sensor with an accuracy within centimeters has been developed.
Fugro GeoServices serves the marine geophysical market in North and South America.
